I visited a unitarian universalist church this weekend. The unitarian church is all about inclusion. Be who you want to be, follow whatever spiritual path you want to follow. These are folks who are very obviously spiritual, searching for truth in many different forms. I don't the vibe that alot of these people were here because they were not accepted in the large entity of the church. Where has the church gone so wrong that folks even had to create this denomination? Shouldn't the church be a place of inclusion, where everyone is welcome to be who they were made, and able to worship God in their own way. Now I'm not saying that the church should become open to any method of salvation, but shouldn't we be more embracing and loving of people, and instead of making people feel like they are condemned and going to hell, make them feel loved and accepted as Jesus did.
Somewhere along the lines we Christians decided that it was all about converting souls. Isn't that God's job? I know that I sure as hell can't convert anyone's soul. Jesus commissioned his disciples to share his message and way of life, but the converting is not our job but the Holy Spirit's. I think its the sins of our generation of church goers that have left so many people on the side of the road because they're different and not easily "converted." I think Jesus would have had us to open our doors to these folks. To share meals. To share stories. To share love. And to share of ourselves. Although, I do not embrace any means to salvation except for Christ crucified, I commend the unitarian church for their acceptance and love for all people. We should take note of this.
